1. How can I obtain the Argentine nationality Citizenship?

The Argentine nationality is obtained through birth or naturalization.

 

The Argentine nationality through birth:

  1. Newborns within the scope of the territory of the Argentine Republic.

  2. Newborns in Argentine warplanes or warships.

  3. Newborns in neutral high seas or in international zone under the national flag.

  4. Argentine newborns born in foreign territory during the performance of national, provincial or municipal duties of one of his parents.

  5. Argentine newborns born in foreign territory during the political exile of his parents.

  6. Argentine newborns born in foreign territory that choose the original nationality of his parents

 

The Argentine nationality through naturalization:

Foreign citizens with more that 18 years old, that have resided in Argentina for the term of two consecutive years and that state their will before the competent authority to become an Argentine national.

 

Other cases:

Regardless the minimum residing period, the foreign citizens included in the following cases are in position to become Argentine national:

 

(i)       Foreigners that have honorably performed duties in the Public Administration (National, Provincial or Municipal).

(ii)          Foreigners that have served time in the Argentine Army.

(iii)         Foreigners that have introduced new forms of industry, invention or any action that meant a material, moral, cultural or artistic advantage for the country.

(iv)        Foreigners being part or to be part in the future of colonies situated in the country.

(v)         Inhabit or promote the inhabitation of the Antártida and the South Atlantic Islands.

(vi)        Foreign researchers or that perform educational activities.

(vii)       Foreigners that have engaged marriage with an Argentine native or that have had a newborn within the scope of the territory of the Argentine Republic.

 

Can I loose the Argentine nationality?

Yes. According to national legislation, there are some cases in which you can loose your acquired nationality. The native Argentine nationality is perpetual and inalienable. The loss of political rights for the naturalized Argentineans implies the loss of the Argentinean nationality which is irrecoverable.
